Club Career
Mika started his youth career with Sporting Pombal at age eleven, where he spent three years before joining the União Leiria youth ranks. He made his professional debut on 26 February 2010 against Vitória Guimarães, replacing teammate Carlão after fellow goalkeeper, Hélder Godinho received a red card for committing a foul inside the penalty area. However, the substitute goalkeeper couldn't stop Andrézinho's shot as Guimarães went on to win 1-0. The following season, Mika was often used as a second choice goalkeeper, but was able to make three late league appearances. In those three games, particularly against Lisbon based clubs, Sporting and Benfica, he made numerous, impressive saves which helped Leiria earn draws in both games. Those two games led Portuguese U-20 manager, Ilídio Vale to call the young goalkeeper up for the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup in which Mika had fine tournament, ultimately winning the Golden Glove Award. While in training camp, preparing for the World Cup, Benfica signed Mika on 7 July 2011, for €0.500 to a five-year-contract from Leiria.

International Career
Mika was Portugal's starting goalkeeper at the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Columbia. He helped Portugal reach the final without conceding a goal before Brazil struck three in a thrilling 3-2 final. Undoubtably, he won the Golden Glove Award due to his fine goalkeeping heroics, which was no better shown when he saved three spot kicks against Argentina in the quarter-final round. Also he broke the record number of minutes without conceding a goal by a goalkeeper in FIFA U-20 World Cup history against France in the semi-final round. Due to Mika's fine tournament in Columbia, Portuguese U-21 manager, Rui Jorge chose him to be starting goalkeeper for 2013 Euro U-21 qualifying.

If its true, sounds like it frees up a couple of roster spots for other international players, and the article predicts his signing will be the doom of both Roberto :ok and Julio Cesar :down

Its back on now :ok Don't know why Leiria denied the report since it ended up being true. Mika signed from Leiria for 500 million euros to a five year contract. Good luck Mika and hopefully one day you will be our starting goalkeeper!

lol I think that's the Portuguese in him speaking. In Portugal thousands is said milhares which when said sounds like millions.

So your both correct it's 500thousand English or 500milhares in Portuguese lol.

Great deal for an up incoming keeper. I can't see him getting too much playing time right away and maybe it would be a good idea to keep loan him out if he isn't going to play.
